Fairwood Procurement Seminar: what can we do towards the realization of sustainability?

January 13 , 2011

“Fairwood” means wood and wood products sourced in a manner that takes into account the conditions of the forest environment and/or the local communities where the logging is taking place. Through encouraging the spread of fairwood procurement, we believe that it is possible to facilitate the utilization of woods which met legality and sustainability criteria while also contributing to the sustainable forest management.

Fairwood Partners organized “Fairwood Procurement Seminars” in Tokyo and Osaka in January 2011 with the aim of presenting pioneering best practices in the adoption and implementation of fairwood procurement policy, and sharing the progress, achievements, and challenges. Six ‘fairwood’ experts from related NGO/businesses delivered presentations, followed by a lively discussion on the merits of fairwood procurement and what steps need to be taken for further progress.
