Fairwood Café opened in Lifestyle Forum 2010
![]() |
‘Fairwood Café’ ran a booth at the “Lifestyle Forum 2010”, which is an annual event in the beginning of November, held under the theme of “living in good harmony with nature” in Shinjuku Gyoen, a large national garden (58.3 ha) set in the middle of the metropolitan city of Tokyo. A number of small tents and booths were set up on a spacious lawn to provide a variety of LOHAS (Lifestyles Of Health And Sustainability) related information, goods and services. Visitors were given the opportunity to think about the relationship between their lifestyles and environmental issues including global warming.
The Fairwood Café, which was run on the concept of “life with forest,” offered coffee (brewed from agroforestry-grown coffee beans) and seasonal, locally sourced food (mainly using wild mountain vegetables such as mushrooms). People enjoyed a pleasant time while relaxing at stylish tables and chairs that were produced from ‘fairwood.’ The café also sold unique handmade wooden products, including tableware, cutlery and toys, that were, too, all created from ‘fairwood’ by local woodwork artists of Japan.
