Following the deteriorating situation in Burma, the EU Council in its meeting of 15-16 October 2007 called for an export ban on equipment both to the log and timber sector and to the mining of metals, minerals, precious and semi precious stones. It also called for an import ban on products from these two sectors and a ban on investment in the sectors. To carry out these measures, the EU will put a new regulation in place, as soon as possible, which will be directly applicable to all Member States.
